AI Model Training and Personal AI Experiments, 2023-2026

I’m equally fascinated and wary of AI and what it might mean for the future of work and society more generally. I do enjoy using it regularly for both work and recreation purposes, including in the following ways:

  • I intermittently contribute to the training of AI models for Outlier.ai, including as a reviewer of the work of other contributors. This requires strong written communication and fact-checking skills, the ability to meet short deadlines, an eye for detail, empathy for the end user, and a good grasp of logic. It’s also provided me with insights into the development of LLMs (large language models).
  • I’m having a lot of fun developing two app ideas using Riff (formerly Databutton). I’ve tried a few “vibe-coding”  or “no-code” platforms, and so far I find Riff/Databutton the most fun to use and the most effective at creating what I want. No jinxes though, I’m still in the development process.
  • Strictly for my own entertainment and learning, I also enjoy generating AI images, particularly on NightCafe.
  • I ask ChatGTP, Grok or Perplexity to research and summarize answers to various of my research questions, give me the pros and cons of decisions, sketch out a plan to implement a business idea, or sometimes even give me a new perspective on personal problems – always taking these responses as just a starting place and subject to verification before acting on them.
